Business Partnerships That Work. Proven success through our Career Pathways program.
Successful Career Pathways programs require dedicated and committed employer support. The Buffalo and Erie County Workforce Investment Board’s pilot program Assembling Your Future: Certified Production Technician found that support in City of Buffalo-based manufacture, Tapecon, Inc.
The Certified Production Technician training program initially gained its footing through conversations with Tapecon Inc. president, Steve Davis, on how to strengthen both public and private partnerships to provide comprehensive training and real-work experience for entry-level manufacturing roles.
Working together with our Workforce Buffalo Business Services team, Tapecon company representative, Bukky Mallia, as well as a team of local employers, the Buffalo Niagara Manufacturers Alliance (BNMA), and training provider Erie 1 BOCES, the program began to take shape.
The division of Business Services has worked closely with Steve Davis, President of Tapecon, a contract manufacturer that focuses on Medical/Medical Device, Industrial OEM, Electronics markets to develop comprehensive and flexible baseline training for Advanced Manufacturing.
The Assembling Your Future: Certified Production Technician training program is a flexible core training curriculum that provides job seekers with the foundations to succeed in careers in Advanced Manufacturing. Eligible candidates 18 and over, who meet minimum qualifications participate in a half-day classroom training at Erie 1 BOCES and a half-day paid work experience in light manufacturing at Goodwill Industries of Western New York. Successful candidates receive nationally accredited training and certification through this industry endorsed training program.
As the program enters its second year, industry partners continue to work alongside the workforce system in an effort to create better opportunities for job seekers across Buffalo and Erie County.
