THRIVE Buffalo’s workforce development pipeline uses a racial equity lens to connect underemployed and unemployed City of Buffalo residents living in financial hardship with education, training, and supportive services necessary to secure and maintain employment with companies in high-growth industries in Erie County, as well as to transition into long-term financial stability.


All THRIVE Buffalo positions are grant funded through March 31, 2020.


Program Coordinator


This is a professional level position with responsibility for coordinating the THRIVE Buffalo program.  The position will provide daily operational leadership and direction to a comprehensive education, training, placement and follow-up program serving low-income individuals.  The Program Coordinator must have excellent interpersonal skills in order to interface with workforce system partners and staff, participants, and state and local stakeholders, including faith-based organizations, community development entities, the business community, and the general public.  This position requires knowledge of workforce development practices and programming, dynamics of the workplace, vocational training programs, placement, follow-up, support services, and information management.

Career Advisor


The THRIVE Career Advisor is responsible for assessing supportive service and financial stability needs, and provide directly, or connect THRIVE consumers to necessary resources, supportive services and financial coaching to address barriers to employment and retention.

THRIVE Career Advisors work with THRIVE clients for up to a year to promote the candidates successful completion of training, job placement, and retention.  Connecting underemployed and unemployed individuals to job opportunities, linking clients with wraparound supports that support job retention, and financial education and asset building services to ensure long-term financial stability.  THRIVE Career Advisors are responsible for both candidate job placement and retention.

Job Recruiter


THRIVE Recruiters are responsible for seeking out, proactively engaging, assessing, and enrolling eligible candidates in THRIVE Buffalo.  THRIVE Recruiters serve the working, underemployed and unemployed individuals living in financial hardship in the City of Buffalo.  Recruiters are responsible for assessing a candidate’s eligibility for THRIVE and completing their intake.  If work ready, skill qualified, or engaged in a career pathway, they may refer candidates to THRIVE Career Navigators.

Recruiters refer those not eligible for THRIVE to the appropriate service or education provider.  They may also refer candidates directly to an employer if they determine they are job ready and qualified for the position.
